Set-up day at the Architectural Digest Show!

March 19th, 2014 by Administrator | Posted in Events and Exhibitions, General |

It was the usual chaos incorporated at the Piers, but since this is my 5th year, I know it will all miraculously come together in a really cool and dazzling show!

The MADE section got all new walls, they are 2 feet higher than previously, which obviously provides more space for artwork, but also makes the aisles feel a little ‘tunneled’. In particular since the aisles are also set narrower this year. It will be interesting to see how people will move through the exhibition with this new set-up.

Here are some quick shots of how the booth looks after the initial set-up, polish will be added tomorrow! I hope to see you at the show!

A new ‘Element’: Light

January 21st, 2014 by Administrator | Posted in Events and Exhibitions, General, The Artists at Work |

After taking a bit of a break from weaving in 2013 and spending most of his time painting (much to our dismay!), Alibay has returned to the loom to work on a fifth element: Light. Below is a picture of the cartoon he painted, which will be his template on the loom. The tapestry should get ready in time for the 2014 Architectural Digest Home Design Show in March!

‘Fire’ tapestry on temporary display in Scarsdale

June 8th, 2013 by Administrator | Posted in Events and Exhibitions, General |

For a limited time, ‘Fire’, one of the four free form tapestries of the ‘Elements’ series, is on display at Grace Lutheran Church, 59 Grand Boulevard in Scarsdale, NY 10583. In the Lutheran Church, fire symbolizes the Holy Spirit, and so with the start of Pentecost, ‘Fire’ joined the permanent tapestry ‘John 15:5’ in the Sanctuary of this beautiful modern church. If you want to visit, Sunday Services take place at 10.00am.

Favorite new artist find for this show

March 24th, 2013 by Administrator | Posted in Artist Picks, Events and Exhibitions, General, Resources |

Here is my favorite new artist find for this show: sculptor Dick Shanley (www.dickshanley.com). Such beautiful happy colorful pieces, smooth and elegant, really cool. And of course my two favorite wood workers are back, Nico Yektai (www.nicoyektai.com), and Earl Nesbitt (www.earlnesbitt.com). Nico brought some incredible new pieces, in particular a long mirror with 3 irregular drawers – it’s a sculpture as much as furniture.

Re-make of John 15:5

March 22nd, 2013 by Administrator | Posted in Events and Exhibitions, General, The Artists at Work |

Today, the re-make of John 15:5 was picked up by its happy new owner. Remember, Alibay had to re-create the cartoon, since it had been destroyed in the first making. The new piece is a little bolder in colors compared to the 2009 version, and entirely glorious! Luckily, our client appreciates the fact that each re-making of a motif will yield a different result! Here it is!

Day 2 at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show

March 22nd, 2013 by Administrator | Posted in Events and Exhibitions |

What makes a good show? Well, sales of course! But what makes a show great? Nice neighbors! And I’m happy to report we are surrounded by wonderful energy and great talent again! Kirk Bauer is back, (www.kirkbauer.com), with his fabulous brushed aluminum pieces, also next door again are John Murphy (www.shopjohnmurphy.com) with his whimsical framed nature photos and Deborah Falls (www.deborahfalls.com) with her incredible flower paintings on silk. A new neighbor and most welcome addition in the textile art realm is felt artist Sharron Parker (www.sharronparker.com). We are blessed to have such great and fun neighbors!
